Children with autism are often easily distracted. They also tend to have behavioral issues in school. I actually interned in some elementary schools one in which I helped a student who was autistic. He was the smartest 1st grader I've ever met, but he was always getting in trouble at school :(

doctors think that kids will "catch up" and for parents to "wait and see"... but when parents see signs in their children they need to see about getting them checked b/c the sooner the diagnosis the better.

I had no idea that the signs of autism were so general. That if a baby doesn't smile by 6 months that it could be a sign. It was an eye opener for me. I don't really know anyone with autism and it was interesting to learn new information about it.
