Children with autism are often easily distracted. They also tend to have behavioral issues in school. I actually interned in some elementary schools one in which I helped a student who was autistic. He was the smartest 1st grader I’ve ever met, but he was always getting in trouble at school :(

From the website “Autism Speaks”, I learned that there are different spectrums of autism that range to high functioning as in “Asperger’s Syndrome”.

Lets face it strides are being made in the field of autism research; however we are still in the prehistoric era of this developmental disease/ As a therapist who has worked with autistic children, two friends who each have one autistic child each; we have not doen anything except for npotism to the families, therapy intervention stragtegiests with more team approaches needed for each autistic individual. What a noble cause! I learned that there is a walk benefitting autism research in my area on Oct. 21st. I’d love to get involved as there is so much to learn and do.

doctors think that kids will “catch up” and for parents to “wait and see”… but when parents see signs in their children they need to see about getting them checked b/c the sooner the diagnosis the better.

I had no idea that the signs of autism were so general. That if a baby doesn’t smile by 6 months that it could be a sign. It was an eye opener for me. I don’t really know anyone with autism and it was interesting to learn new information about it.

Everybody should learn more about autism. I also believe they are from vaccinations. It is sad. The goverment should look into the vaccination theory.
